Add questions

For applicants, use questions to:

• Evaluate their aptitude for awards

• Collect Post-acceptance questionnaires for donors or award compliance

For reviewers and references, use questions to gather qualitative information about applicants, such as Share any additional thoughts regarding this applicant.

Note: To learn more about the General Application questions, see Update General Application.

1. On an opportunity, reviewer group, or reference questionnaire, go to the Questions tab.

2. Select Add Question.

3. Select Single Question:

   • To add an existing question, locate it in the list and select +

   • To learn how to create a group of related questions, see Create a question set

4. Add question text.

5. Select the question type:

   • For more on question types, see Question types

   • To create good questions for qualifications, see Add qualifications

6. Select other options as needed. These options vary based on question types.

   Note: If you are setting a maximum and minimum word count limit for the applicant response, the tracker shows the number of words remaining for the minimum value when an applicant enters a response. Once the minimum count is met, the tracker reflects the maximum word count.

7. Select Save Question.

8. Under Existing Questions, find your question and select +.

9. Close the window.

10. At the bottom of the page, select Update Questions.

Once you've added questions, you can perform the following actions:

• Under Order, re-arrange questions by using

• Select Required? to make the question mandatory

• Select Edit to adjust a question. For more guidance, see Update application questions.

• Select to remove the question

After any changes, make sure to select Update Questions.

When writing questions, make them:

• Singular: Focus on one quality per question

• Unique: Ask for information you don’t already know

• Specific: Provide necessary details and context

• Simple: Keep word counts low and word choice basic

• Exhaustive: Choose answers that cover all possible options without overlapping each other

Your organization has total control over information available in Stewardship Management.

To share information from a specific question with Stewardship Management, mark a question as Stewardship Visible.

From there, a system or stewardship administrator can make this question visible to donor contacts. For more information, see Set up stewardship fields.

Any question — be it general application, conditional application or opportunity-level — can be updated to use the reviewer visibility settings. When creating or editing a question:

1. Under Reviewer Visibility, select the option you need.

2. Select Update Question for All Opportunities.
