Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA)

While a user's email address and password secures their account, users can increase security with multifactor authentication. Multifactor authentication enables the user's account to require a unique verification code — received on the user's email — in addition to their email address and password. If someone has the user's password, they still need the verification code to access sensitive data and account information through the user's account.

Only individual users who sign in with an email and password — with local or allow-list authentication — can enable multifactor authentication for their account. Users have the option to enable or disable multifactor authentication at any point.

  1. Log in to Award Management.

  2. From the initials in the top-right corner, select Account Details. For admins, select Account.

  3. Select Multifactor authentication.

    Users will receive a confirmation email when multifactor authentication is enabled or disabled.

  1. Users sign in to Award Management.

  2. Users receive an email with a six-digit verification code if their email and password are correct.

  3. Users are directed to a page with a form to enter the verification code. Users can select the option to remember the browser for thirty days.

    • If users enter the correct code within five minutes, they are logged in successfully.

    • If users enter an incorrect code, they see an error message to check the verification code. Users can request a new code.

  • If users do not receive the confirmation email, they need to check their spam folder.

  • If users do not receive the confirmation email, they must verify the email address they are signing in with is the same email to which the verification code is sent.

  • If the verification code does not work, users must try requesting a new code.

  • If a user continues to have issues with multifactor authentication, an admin can Become User and disable multifactor authentication. See Work with user accounts for steps to become a user.
