Assignment Settings
Academic Group Managers and Gradebook Managers can configure Assignment types, set Assignment Center defaults, and establish the ability for parents to view their student's assignments in Assignment settings.
To access the settings, select Academics, Grades, Grading setup, then Assignment settings.
Note: If the new Student Assignment experience (available 12/5/23) is enabled for your school, you can access the new Assignment settings by selecting Grades, Grading setup, New assignment settings. Information for both Assignment settings and New assignment settings is below.

Assignment types are used to organize assignments. They are also useful for reporting purposes. For example,
Assignment types are added by Academic Group Managers. They are set globally (not by department or course), so be sure to add assignment types that can be used by all

From the persona menu, select Academics.

Select Grades followed by Grading setup.

Select Assignment settings and then Add Type for a new assignment.

Enter the Assignment Type (e.g. Homework).

Enter the Assignment Code. If Gradebook is being used, this will be the assignment's abbreviation (e.g. HW).

If your school considers this to be a major assignment type, select Yes under Major assignment.

Select Yes to activate the assignment type or No to not allow it to be used. This option can be changed at any time.

When done, select Save.
Display options primarily alters how the information within the Assignment Center and Course Section are viewed by users. They can set the following settings:
Tip: These are default settings and can be changed by the teacher on their Assignment Center and Course Section.

Assignment Default Assigned Time: Select a time that assignments should have as their default Assigned time.

Default view: Select whether the Assignment Center should default to a list or grid view.

Grid default filter: Select whether assignments should be viewed by day, week, or month by default.

Default display: Select whether assignments should display by assigned, due, or active by default.

List default due filter: Select the default time frame for displaying due assignments.

List default publish status: Select whether Published or Not Published assignments display by default.

List default sort column: Choose the default sort order for assignments.
View access to child's assignments allows Academic Group Managers to determine, by school level, if parents can view their child's assignments from the Assignments page in the student's profile.
Note: Academic Group Managers will need to set the Group Page Access if parents should not be able to view assignments on section pages or in the Activity Stream. Platform Managers can also globally prevent assignments from appearing in the Activity Stream.
In New assignment settings, Academic Group Managers and Gradebook Managers can configure Assignment Center defaults for faculty and separate defaults for students and parents.

Under Assignment Types, select + Add Type.

Enter the Assignment type (e.g. Homework).

Select Active to activate the assignment type. This option can be changed at any time.

To edit an assignment type, locate it in the list and select the context menu > Edit.
To delete an assignment type, locate it in the list and select the context menu > Delete.
Note: If Delete is not available, the assignment type cannot be deleted. Instead, you can edit the assignment type and deselect Active.
Configure default settings for Students and Parents accessing the Assignment Center, including List vs. Calendar view, and the Calendar default filter.
You can also set view access to student assignments for parents by school level. This determines if parents can view their child's assignments from the Assignments page in the student's profile.
Note: An Academic Group Manager will need to set the Group Page Access if parents should not be able to view assignments on section pages or in the Activity Stream. Platform Managers can also globally prevent assignments from appearing in the Activity Stream.
