A Coach's Guide to Online Teams
Coaches can build an online community for their Student athletes and their parents through their online Team. There are several different tools available to coaches to build a dynamic online Team which can be used to keep your Student athletes focused and on task even when your team might be unable to meet in person.
Tip: If you are looking for information on how to build a team or add coaches, select the applicable link.
The Team page works much like a Bulletin board in other group types. Select Enter Edit Mode to edit your Team's page by dragging and dropping content types onto the Team page. Your team page can be populated with any content that pertains to your team and/or team schedule. Content types include Links, Photos, Videos, Downloads, News, Audio, Announcements, and Events. You also have access to an Embed widget which you can use to include an RSS feed on your team page. There are a couple content types that are only available for Team pages, they are:
-
Scoreboard: This widget allows you to track your team's games and scores along with any highlights from the game. Use the plus-sign icon to add information about a specific game. The added information can be edited at any time. Games will populate from your team's Schedule.
-
Statistics: This widget shows a breakdown of your team's wins and losses and breaks those out to League and Non-League statistics. This information will be pulled from the Scoreboard widget.
Use Preview page to preview any changes you have made and select Publish layout changes or Publish layout & go to page when you have finished editing your team page.
Topics allow you to create separate pages for content. In Academics, these are typically used for units of study but these can be used for exercise routines, pre-game strategy, parent information, and any other content for the team that can be broken out by rival, week, game, etc. For example, if your football team needs to review game tape before each game, you can create a topic for each upcoming game and upload video files for your student athletes to review before the game.
To add a new Topic, use Create Topic and provide a title and cover photo for your topic as well as set the publishing, sharing, and import options for the topic. Once a Topic is created, use the Edit icon for the Topic to edit existing or add new content. To learn more about creating and importing topics, take a look at our help.
Under Add, coaches have the following options:
-
Game or Practice: allows you to add one game or practice.
-
Bulk Practices: allows you to add practices in bulk
-
Other Event: allows you to add other events to your team schedule that can be attached to an Event registration.
Warning: Coaches do not have access to creating event registration forms. A Registration manager would need to create the registration form for the coach to attach to their Event.
In addition, under Settings, you can publish the game and/or practice schedule for your team as well as send out a one time notification for each. To learn more about setting your team schedules, see here.
Under Roster, you can see the Student athletes that make up your team. You can also:
-
Manage your roster to add or remove Coaches and/or Athletes.
Tip: Only available if your school allows Coaches to edit their own rosters.
-
Send communication to your roster, parents, or all (athletes and their parents).
-
View various roster reports.
-
View student profiles.
-
Use the Edit icon to add Student athlete information including Jersey #, Position, Height, Weight, etc. This information can be added and edited at any time and can be displayed on your school's front end website.
Names on the Roster follow the User Name Format set in Core.
