Areas of Study

Diploma managers can use Area of Study to create Majors, Minors, and Concentrations. You can associate Majors and Minors with your Diplomas and concentrations can be associated with specific Majors. You can sort Areas of Study by any of the chosen columns. You need to select the header for the column to sort. You can filter Areas of Study by Status.

Note: Diploma features are only accessible to users who have been set up with Blackbaud ID (BBID). For more information on BBID settings, see the help topic Blackbaud ID Authentication for Education Management.

In order to access these features, a school administrator will need to assign the Diploma Manager role to an employee.

  1. Select Core.

  2. Select Security.

  3. Select Roles.

  4. Find the Diploma Manager (Application type) role in the list.

  5. Select the ellipsis (...) at the start of the row.

  6. Select Manage role.

  7. Select Members and then Add. Any employees you add to the Diploma Manager role will have access to Diploma and Area of Study features in Academics.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades then Grading setup.

  3. Select Area of study.

  4. Select + Add, then select one of the following options:

    • Add major: subject or course of study

    • Add minor: optional secondary course of study

    • Add concentration: an area of emphasis within a major

  5. Enter the following information:

    • Name

      • Select + Add new.

      • Enter a Name and Abbreviation. These are required fields.

      • Select Save.

    • Active: Select this if you would like to make this major, minor, or concentration immediately available after you save it.

    • Description (optional)

    • For: Select an existing Diploma (for a major or minor) or a Major (for a concentration).

    • Valid from

    • Valid to

  1. Select Save.

Note: Edits made to your Area of Study do not change any of your individual Areas of Study.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades then Grading setup.

  3. Select Area of study.

  4. Use the context menu for the area of study to select Edit.

  5. Make changes as needed.

  6. Select Save.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades then Grading setup.

  3. Select Area of study.

  4. Use the context menu for the area of study to choose Delete.

  5. Select Yes to confirm.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades then Grading setup.

  3. Select Area of study.

  4. Use the context menu for the area of study to choose Copy.

  5. A new area of study menu will appear with all of the same options selected. Make any changes.

  6. Select Save when finished.

Diploma managers can use Requirements to associate courses with an Area of Study. These Requirements will need to be completed in order for a student to complete the major, minor, or concentration.

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades then Grading setup.

  3. Select Area of study.

  4. Select the name of an Area of study to edit it.

  5. Select + Add to add a requirement.
