Student Gradebook

Within their gradebook, teachers can access an individual student gradebook by selecting the student's name then See student's gradebook. The Student gradebook displays the student's assignment grade averages for the class broken down by Assignment Type, a count of their assignment statuses, their marking period grade, and Cumulative year grade (if the gradebook is set up by year). Select the marking period you want to view at the top of the page.

Detailed view by Assignment Type

Select an Assignment Type for a detailed view of the student's assignments of that specific type. You can use the up and down arrows at the top of the page to move between Assignment Types. This detailed view displays the student's grade, grade comments, and any status indicators marked for the assignments. The Class average is also included so you can easily see how a student's grade compares to the rest of the class.

Tip: For information on the icons displayed in the Status column, see Working with Gradebook.

Competency based student gradebook

If your school utilizes Competency Based Education (CBE), a dropdown at the top of the student gradebook enables you to select Total score, Content-area skills or sub-skills, and/or Transferable skills or sub-skills. The options available vary based on the type of skills enabled for the school level associated with your class. With Content-area or Transferable skills selected, the number of Evaluated and Mastered skills will display in the student gradebook header. See Teacher's Guide to Competency Based Educationand Competency Based Education for more information on CBE.

Whereas Content-area skills are specific to a course or subject area, Transferable skills can span a student's academic performance at the school. When Transferable skills are selected in the student gradebook, you can also choose between displaying skill details for Just this class or All years/classes.

With Content-area skills or Transferable skills selected, the following information displays for each skill:

  • Class average: The average of summative graded assignments (assignments not marked Formative) for all students in the class. With Transferable skills selected, Class average only displays if Just this class is selected.

  • Evaluations: Displays the number of summative evaluations, followed by the number of formative evaluations.

  • Mastery: A green check indicates the student has achieved mastery for the skill.

  • Student average: The student's average skill score for the selected marking period. Only summative graded assignments (assignments not marked Formative) are included in the average.

  • Cumulative average: The student's average skill score for the class duration across marking periods. For Transferable skills, selecting All years/classes displays the student's cumulative average for the skill across all years and classes.

  • Trend: Indicates if the student's evaluation scores are improving, staying the same, or decreasing.

Skill details by Assignment

When viewing Content-area or Transferable skills in the Student gradebook, teachers can select a skill to view the assignments associated with the skill, including the student's Rating and Comments. Assignments are split into two sections:

  • Evaluations: Summative assignments that are included in calculations.

  • Formative: Assignments marked Formative and excluded from calculations.

For each assignment, the following information displays:

  • Assignment name

  • Assigned date

  • Due date

  • Status: Displays status icons applied to the assignment.

  • Rating: The student's skill rating for the assignment.

  • Comment: Displays the comment entered for the skill, not the overall Assignment comment.
